As a wedding photographer in South Wales, I am often reminded that wedding photography can be one of the most expensive sides of your big day. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are many cheaper wedding photographers out there, but I know when you are paying the amount of money you are on this one day, the thing you really cannot afford to skimp on is the photography.

When you are spending such huge amounts of money on everything else, you want to have incredible pictures to capture everything. Yes, you will always have the memories, but photographs have a way to bring to life and revive our memories. They are an excellent way to reflect and can often take you right back to these moments in time. I always say to my clients; I know that it seems like an awful lot of effort for just one day, but it is a day you will revisit and relive in your mind for the rest of your life. It is never just the one-day, it is that and the countless days after it.

It is not only you that will enjoy these pictures. Family members and friends will often put up images that are taken on your big day in their own houses to reflect on. These pictures are going to be seen every day and are often featured in family members living rooms. They have to be good!

With social media like Facebook and Twitter being what they are today, I am sure many of these images will be posted online for all the friends who didn’t make it to the day to see. I know it might seem a little silly, but you want your big day to look beautiful to the people who didn’t make it as well.

These pictures will last longer than us. This might seem like a strange thing to say but let’s face it, our great, great, great grandchildren will be looking at these. For us to go back that far, we would be looking at awful grainy, black and white images but generations ahead of us will be able to see us in high definition. These pictures will be stamped in history.

Do you like the photographer’s style of photography, are you impressed with his or her images and would you like your wedding photos to look similar to the ones on the websites?

Is the price right, yes it is important to have a good photographer but don’t be ripped off. I know wedding photography is important but make sure you shop around and find someone who has a price that fits your budget.

Do you like them as a person? This is actually really important; this person is going to be an important guest at your wedding. They will be capturing some really intimate moments of you and your partner. You have to feel comfortable around this person and feel happy for them to be snapping you all day. If you feel at all uncomfortable about the photographer or uneasy then you should certainly not have them capture your big day. It will come across in the photographs.
