Wedding Photography in Cardiff

Wedding photography in Cardiff

I thought I would take a moment to tell you a little more about my background and how I got into wedding photography in Cardiff. I have always had a love for photography and pursued it through out my education. I went to university in Kingston Upon Thames to do a degree in advertising mixed with photography and followed a career in it straight away after.

How did I start doing weddings

A few years ago a good friend of mine was getting married and asked me whether I would do the photography for their big day. He knew I had a passion for it and they also have some other images up in their house that I have taken.

I thought it was slightly daunting, having never done wedding photography before but decided to go for it. I took hundreds of images and sat down after to look through them all. I was really pleased with my work. I gathered together all the best images I took and touched them up in Photoshop, making some black and white and simply enhancing the colours on others to make the images really come to life. When I presented them with the images, they were really, really happy with them. In that moment I realised that I could go on to bring other people the same happiness. It really made me realise how important wedding photos are to people.

It took a while to get a few more weddings but sooner or later I began to get more work and have stuck at it ever since.

What have I learned from taking wedding photos

When I talk to people in Cardiff about my job, one of the first things I always explain is how there is much more to it than just one day of photography. Many people say, “wow, you are so lucky being able to just work for one day and earn that money” and I always laugh. One wedding pretty much equates to a full weeks work for me.

Meeting up with clients before hand, running through what they like and understanding how they would like me to capture their images for them. Turning up for a full day of photography on the day of the wedding, which is usually quite exhausting (even if I do enjoy it). The real work, however does not begin until the after the wedding is finished. I often take up to 1500 images on a given wedding day. Afterwards I flick through every single one trying to pick out the top 400 images and a special 100 that I am going to be paying extra special attention to.

Once I have done this, I will single handily touch up every image. It can easily take up to about 15-20 minutes per image so it doesn’t take a mathematician to work out how long this can take.

How I Approach each wedding

I treat every wedding like it is my first. I am not simply going through the motions; I try and view each wedding like I have never been to one before. It helps me look at it in a different way. A way that I think really helps my photos stand out.

I hope that you begin to get an idea about how photography is more than just a job for me. It is something I truly love and part of my passion comes from making my clients happy.
